WebSep 1, 2012 · With a strong mystery and true crime aspect and a wonderfully atmospheric depiction of the bleak Shoal Islands, this was a fantastic book and a story that I quickly became engrossed in. It is not difficult to see why this made the Orange short-list at the time, though regrettably it didn’t win. WebThis book is magical; written in verse it flows effortlessly. The thing with novels-in-verse is that they are very different from poetry, yet very different from prose. Because of its format you can absorb it in no time at all, and it focus' on key moments rather than there being lots of description – a little goes a long way.
