Webb21 maj 2012 · Took it off and lubed the shaft and it worked like a champ. If it sits for long periods (like winter) without cranking it, the drive sticks and won't engage. Just be sure to check that the drive gear teeth are in good shape. If they are worn off (you should be able to see if worn), the drive may be heading up but not able to engage the flywheel ... NOW when you engage the starter it spins up and pushes out every single time but doesn't retract back into the primary. I only have the inner primary mounted and the starter bolted to that. I haven't put the clutch/comp/chain back on yet because I was worried about the bind. The starter is designed to do what its name says, to start the car. If the solenoid rod sticks, the switch inside the solenoid assy will stay in contact letting the starter continue to spin.
